The Fab Features 2021 Grammy Predictions

In a year like no other, the world’s universal emotional outlet was satisfied by some terrific music artists, albums and songs. While many categories have some stiff competition, this year’s biggest night in music could be very telling in how trends will continue and some nominations, if won, could even make history. For the general and pop categories, here are the Fab Features 2021 Grammy Predictions.

Record Of The Year

  • BLACK PARADE – Beyoncé
  • COLORS – Black Pumas
  • ROCKSTAR – DaBaby Featuring Roddy Ricch
  • SAY SO – Doja Cat
  • EVERYTHING I WANTED – Billie Eilish
  • DON’T START NOW – Dua Lipa
  • CIRCLES – Post Malone
  • SAVAGE – Megan Thee Stallion Featuring Beyoncé

‘Savage’ started it’s own viral TikTok dance trend, but beyond that, the genius pairing of Beyoncé on this already-fire track elevated it to new heights, showcasing the next generation of R&B/pop with the literal queen B who paved her way.

Album Of The Year

  • CHILOMBO – Jhené Aiko
  • BLACK PUMAS (DELUXE EDITION) – Black Pumas
  • EVERYDAY LIFE – Coldplay
  • DJESSE VOL.3 – Jacob Collier
  • WOMEN IN MUSIC PT. III – HAIM
  • FUTURE NOSTALGIA – Dua Lipa
  • HOLLYWOOD’S BLEEDING – Post Malone
  • FOLKLORE – Taylor Swift

Nobody’s album release in 2020 got people talking, and was as much of a dramatic turn in their artistry, than Taylor’s ‘Folklore’. Showing she’s still at the top of her songwriting game, she undoubtedly deserves recognition for the impact the album has had on her fans, skeptics, and career.

Song Of The Year

  • BLACK PARADE – Beyoncé
  • THE BOX – Roddy Ricch
  • CARDIGAN – Taylor Swift
  • CIRCLES – Post Malone
  • DON’T START NOW – Dua Lipa
  • EVERYTHING I WANTED – Billie Eilish
  • I CAN’T BREATHE – H.E.R.
  • IF THE WORLD WAS ENDING – Julia Michaels & JP Saxe

No explanation needed really, but Beyoncé’s ‘Black Parade’ features so many layered personal anecdotes and ancestral history with a strong, powerful message only she could deliver; plus it’s relevant now more than ever.

Best New Artist

  • INGRID ANDRESS
  • PHOEBE BRIDGERS
  • CHIKA
  • NOAH CYRUS
  • D SMOKE
  • DOJA CAT
  • KAYTRANADA
  • MEGAN THEE STALLION

Megan has burst onto the scene with so much star power and potential, it’s hard to ignore. With solo smashes such as ‘Girls In the Hood’, ‘Body’, a feature from Beyoncé on ‘Savage’, and and features on ‘WAP’ with Cardi B and ’34+35′ with Ariana Grande, the hits just keep coming for her, and she’s the hottest new artist to collab with when your song needs extra spice. Every song and performance is sexier than the last and she holds her own in the rap game should anybody (foolishly) try to challenge her. Megan Thee Queen, more like.

Best Pop Solo Performance

  • YUMMY – Justin Bieber
  • SAY SO – Doja Cat
  • EVERYTHING I WANTED – Billie Eilish
  • DON’T START NOW – Dua Lipa
  • WATERMELON SUGAR – Harry Styles
  • CARDIGAN – Taylor Swift

Future Nostalgia was a home run for Dua Lipa, with everything from the vibe to its production being out-of-this-world stellar (literally). ‘Don’t Start Now’, the lead single, set the stage for an upbeat and groovy sophomore album that solidified her staying power as a pop princess.

Best Pop Duo/Group Performance

  • UN DIA (ONE DAY) – J Balvin, Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny & Tainy
  • INTENTIONS – Justin Bieber Featuring Quavo
  • DYNAMITE – BTS
  • RAIN ON ME – Lady Gaga with Ariana Grande
  • EXILE – Taylor Swift Featuring Bon Iver

As much as it pretty much goes against my religion to vote against Gaga, and Exile was a terrific duet, you have to give credit where it’s due to BTS. There’s no other group completely smashing it right now then them, and Dynamite is really a testament to their worldwide appeal in terms of the catchiness and success. It would be a true disservice to not honor them for their contributions to pushing music forward, and it’s not like they’ll be an artist easily forgotten in a year’s time; if anything, they’ll be even bigger.

Best Pop Vocal Album

  • CHANGES – Justin Bieber
  • CHROMATICA – Lady Gaga
  • FUTURE NOSTALGIA – Dua Lipa
  • FINE LINE – Harry Styles
  • FOLKLORE – Taylor Swift

This was definitely the hardest decision to make in my book since I love all of these artists and their albums have been on replay so much for me this year, but ultimately, I have to give it to Harry. Fine Line, his second album, showed so much growth since his previous, debut album. The result is cheery, fun, catchy, and 100% fits Harry’s personality, that he’ll have difficulty topping in his sure to be long-term career.

In total, like every year, I’m just really excited to see who gets to add a golden gramophone to their achievements! Tune with me for the live show on Sunday, 3/14 at 8pm on CBS to see if the academy agrees with me on who should win, and send me your own picks on Twitter and Instagram @fabfeaturesnet!
